Audi TT Quattro ABS Controller Module Pump Repairs
The Audi TT is fitted with (most commonly) a BOSCH ABS pump & controller, also known as ECU or Module. We’ve found that the most common faults with these is no communication and fault codes such as P1649 which relates to data bus / data link communication errrors from the ABS control module. So far on these units we’ve repaired the following faults:

  • No Communication
  • Data Bus / Data Link Errors (P1649)
  • ABS Light On Dash
  • Juddering When Braking

The last few we’ve seen had the common P1649 fault which is also a fault code shared with VW’s and refers to the same problem (Implausible Signal From ABS Control Module). Audi’s & VW’s are very well known now for their weak ABS pumps & control modules so it’s not uncommon if you’ve got an Audi and your ABS light is on, get it checked out by an auto-electrician and if it does turn out to be a faulty ABS unit then call us with the part numbers. We could possibly have one sitting on the shelf ready to exchange or repair your own unit. All our products & services are fully backed by our 1Yrs warranty.

When your ABS unit fails or you can see the ABS light lit up on your dash board, you should take caution when driving because this means the ABS pump will not pump the brakes. In some cases it will not effect normal driving, but we have seen on many new vehicles with ABS & Traction Control in one that the vehicle becomes somewhat unstable when the module is not working. Also, you must remember that if the ABS pump is not pumping, then the brakes efficiency will be greatly effected under heavy braking. It is advised that you should only drive the vehicle if you really have to when the ABS light or Traction light is on to be absolutely safe. If you’re unsure, call us for more information on 0203 815 9441.

Audi TT Quattro ABS Pump Repairs P1649

We are repairing ABS pumps & ecu’s on a daily basis so if you think yours has failed, or your not sure then give us a call with your part numbers and we’ll tell you how much it will cost and the turn around time. As a general guideline we aim to repair all units within 48-72 hours, however, this may vary and we will always notify you of any changes.

If you do decide to send your unit in to us, we do ask that you keep the module attached to the pump and send both parts into us so that we can do a complete test on both the pump & module at the same time. There is no extra charge for this service.

Common Canbus Wiring Problems When Fitting A Xenon HID Conversion Kit

Xenon Dual-Canbus HID Conversion Kits

We get a lot of customers who have purchased HID conversion kits from other companies or even from ebaY. Not knowing which type of kit they really need, other than the bulb size and colour temperature preference. You can find kits as cheap as £25-£50 without much struggle and an average of £60-£70 for a hid conversion kit. The problem is, if you don’t know your vehicles wiring type, you may run in to many problems along the way which can be very frustrating, especially because you’ll find that many of the sellers are simply “sellers from home” who know nothing about the technicalities behind choosing the right kit for your car and in some cases, will not even honour their warranty / refund policies.

Every day we’re having people come to us saying they’ve bought a kit off ebaY or from another company and went to install the kit (all fine) but when going to turn the lights on, they come on and then go off again. Or they come on and just flicker constantly or bring up errors etc. These problems are flagging up everywhere and are becoming more apparent. The problem is not the kit, the kit will work on an older vehicle without canbus wiring but if you’re facing these problems, then you will need a kit that can accommodate your vehicles electrical expectations. Our Dual Canbus kit does just this, the very latest technology and ours are the ONLY kits currently with Dual-Canbus technology.

The most common problems are:

  • Lights turn on then automatically turn off (Ballast Shutdown)
  • Lights turn on but then flicker
  • Lights turn on then one headlamp with turn off
  • Bulb Out / Warning Errors Appearing On Dash
  • OBC errors appearing on the dashboard

If you have experienced any of the above problems then there are now canbus kits available for you on the market which 9/10 times are all plug & play. Most of the times these kits will work fine, however, there have been cases where even with canbus kits you will experience problems for example the Volvo XC90.. even with a canbus HID conversion kit fitted, the car will flag up a warning on the dashboard and sometimes the lights will cut out making it un-drivable at night.

Buy A Error-Free Dual-Canbus Xenon HID Conversion KitThe Dual-Canbus kit eliminates all these kinds of problems. It was designed & manufactured with cars like the Volvo XC90 in mind, so that it could accommodate for all the current cars with Canbus wiring but also fix problems that cars such as the Volvo XC90 have. In fact, it is currently the ONLY Dual-Canbus kit available on the market and yes, it’s a SINSPEED Dual-Canbus HID Conversion Kit.

You can buy a Dual-Canbus HID Conversion Kit here and if you need any more information on this topic, do not hesitate to call us with any questions or queries you may have.

Audi VW Volkswagen Passat ABS ECU

Audi & Volkswagen (VW) Bosch 5.3 ABS Pump & Controller ECU Common Faults & Repairs

Audi VW Volkswagen Passat ABS ECU

A very common fault on practically all VW’s & Audi’s is the ABS pump and controller module failing. We repair all types of ABS pumps & controller modules but this blog post in particular is about the very common Bosch 5.3 unit which is seen commonly failing on the following vehicles:

  • 1996 – 2001 Audi A4, A6, S4
  • 1996 – 2001 VW Passat

When it fails, the ABS light will appear on the dash and the most common faults with these units is no communication and wheel speed sensor faults. If that’s the problems you’re having then no doubt we can repair it for you, saving you £££’s on what you’d be paying if you had bought a brand new unit & because we’re repairing your own unit, you don’t have to pay to get it recoded or programmed either.. it’s all plug & play when you get it back and fully covered by our 1Yrs warranty.

Even if the fault you’re getting on your unit is not as described by us, give us a call anyway.. we try to keep these articles as accurate as possible at the time of publishing but to reduce confusion we only list the most common failures. Other faults are also:

  • ABS Light On
  • No Communication
  • Wheel Speed Sensor Faults
  • Juddering When Braking

audi a4 a6 s4 vw passat abs ecu repairsWhatever the faults, give us a call today on 0203 815 9441 and let us quote you happy, we even carry many of the most common ABS units in stock ready to be dispatched same day.

All BOSCH ABS units start with either 0265 or 0273. If it’s an ATE ABS unit then the part numbers will start with 10 and OEM part numbers do vary. Audi ABS Pumps & Controllers Repaired and Sold

Almost all vehicles are now fitted with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and TCS (Traction Control System) to give us better stability of the vehicle. When these units fail, it doesn’t always render the vehicle non-drivable, however, it can make it unsafe to drive because believe it or not the on-board computers are constantly working to keep the vehicle moving steadily especially at higher speeds.

In some cars you can’t really feel the difference on day-to-day driving on local roads but on motorways it’s noticeable in all vehicles where the on-board ABS controller or Traction Controller isn’t working.. you’ll feel it sway a bit, it’ll become unsteady and maybe even vibrate/judder.

Audi ABS pumps are attached to the controller and are in clear view under the bonnet, normally mounted close to the passenger side suspension turret. There’s commonly two types of ABS controllers on the Audi, Bosch & ATE. The Bosch units have a part number starting with 02 (commonly 0265.. or 0273) and are 10 digits long. The ATE units have a part number starting with 10 (commonly 10.0) and are 11 digits long.

We’ve been repairing these ABS controllers & Traction control units for years now and we’re taking in at least 3-4 units a day now from private & trade customers. The most common faults we’re seeing on these on a daily basis are:

  • No Communication
  • Wheel Sensor Fault
  • ABS / Traction Light On dash
  • Flashing Red Brake Light On Dash
  • Vibrations Under Breaking
  • Speedo Not Working

Audi ABS Pump Failures RepairedSome people prefer replacing these units with second-hand units from breaker yards, problem with that is that this is a very common fault and almost definitely all of them will fail at one point or another so when buying a second-hand unit, you’re unaware of the history of the unit (has it previously been repaired yet or is it waiting to fail?).. once they’ve been repaired they don’t really come back or become faulty again and should last the lifetime of the vehicle.

Buying a new unit isn’t cheap at all, they start from £500+ and require programming/coding to your vehicle as well (either by a local electrician with the correct equipment) or a main dealer. You still get the same 12months warranty on a new unit, nothing special so there’s no real reason to go down this road until you’re certain your unit is beyond repair, which is very unlikely.

We remanufacture these units every day and we try to keep some of the most common part numbers readily available in stock to reduce turn around time. All units from us are pre-programmed ready to plug & play on the vehicle, meaning they do not require further programming. Always call us first prior to sending any units in and have the part numbers to hand so that we can confirm the price & turn around time. We do not take payment from you until the unit has been repaired and tested working okay & ready to come back to you & the best thing is, all our units come with the same 12months warranty.

If you do decide to send your unit in to us, we ask that you kindly send both the controller and the attached hydraulic pump so that we can fully bench test both parts of the unit. This means when removing it from the vehicle, you should remove it whole by disconnecting the communication cables and also the 4-6 hydraulic lines running into the pump. When re-fitting the unit, you will have to bleed all 4 brakes starting from the wheel furthest away from the ABS pump i.e. if the pump is located on passenger side front suspension turret, then you should begin bleeding from the driver side rear wheel.

Even if you’ve been told by others that your unit is non-repairable, don’t give up until you’ve given us a call.

We have replacement SD Cards for all FORD Satellite Navigation Units

Replacement SD Cards for the Ford Satellite Navigation Systems

We have replacement SD Cards for all FORD Satellite Navigation Units

Update: We currently do not have any stock of these SD Cards. Like us on our Facebook page to find out when they come back in stock.

The Ford range satellite navigation systems with built-in DVD / CD-Player is a great addition to the vehicle with Bluetooth for hands-free calling as well. The satellite is pretty good if you’ve got one that does the postcode finder as well of course, otherwise, in my opinion, we’re better off with a simple £100 TomTom.

Anyway, one thing we’re getting calls for on these Fords is the SD Card that is read by the Sat-Nav units. The navigation roadmaps and data are all stored on a removable SD card. I guess they made it removable so you could connect it up to your pc/laptop and update it from time to time with the latest updates… it’s a good idea but it means that there’s always a possibility you’ll misplace, damage or just completely lose your SD card and if you do, well then buying a replacement from Ford is Not cheap at all.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have just wired in an onboard USB port so that you could hook up a laptop directly to the sat-nav system and update it that way, it would save us a lot of money because the possibility of losing your original SD card would be eliminated.

For those of you that have lost your SD card, we do now carry replacements for you in stock readily available. Give us a call, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that we can replace your SD card at a fraction of the cost. It’s always a good idea to keep a backup of your SD card in future.

A common fault for the Ford Satellite Navigation units is that the screens fail, rendering the unit useless. Fortunately enough we do carry out repairs on these so if you or somebody you know has this issue, then you can check out our blog on Ford Sat-Nav Systems Screen Failures.

Focus & Mondeo Sat-Nav Screens Repaired

The new Ford’s come with an optional upgrade MFD Multi Function Display Satellite Navigation System. They’re pretty cool, look great in the dash but at £1000-£1800 they don’t come cheap! – Some in fact don’t even do the basics like navigate via postcode which lets face it even the cheapest TomTom can handle. Others have had faults where the CD player won’t allow you to Pause/Stop a CD from playing without either making a call or turning the unit off completely.

The main problem which a lot of owners are facing is the screen failure which is common across the entire Ford range to which the units are fitted to. When they fail, Ford render the unit useless and advise that it must be replaced – if it’s replaced under warranty then you’re very lucky but otherwise it seems like a very costly replacement which makes us question whether or not it’s feasible.

Before parting with your hard earned cash, there is a very good chance that your existing unit can be repaired saving you a LOT of money. No programming, no hefty bill on a new unit and the best part is we now offer all repaired units with our Lifetime warranty – and it’s completely plug  & play when the unit is returned to you.

Ford Satellite Navigation Unit Repairs

What exactly do we do for you? – We’ll strip down your existing unit and connect it up to our uniquely purpose built test rig and bench test your unit to determine exactly where all the faults are. After the initial soak test, we will then carry out any necessary repairs, replacing any major components that are necessary including the liquid crystal display (LCD). Once the repairs have been carried out, the unit will be re-assembled and connected up to our rig for a final bench-test to determine full & complete functionality before returning it to you with our full Lifetime warranty.
There are various models of these navigational systems and even if you’re driving a different vehicle with similar issues, it’s possible that we can still help you.

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Repairs

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Steering Biased One Way

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Repairs

All new Vauxhall Corsa’s & Rover MGF’s are designed with EPS Systems installed (Electronic Power Steering), specifically electric columns with a motor & ECU attached and too often these units are failing in more than one way. Sometimes there is intermittent loss of power, sometimes complete loss of power but more commonly a feeling of biased steering – as though it’s heavy one way.

If you’ve got a Vauxhall Corsa or a Rover MGF with an electric steering column fitted and suffering from steering which is biased one way or heavy one way.. and you’ve taken it to your local garage or main dealer – then the likeliness is that you’ve been informed the steering column is at fault and needs replacing (a new unit is £500+ with programming) and a second hand unit doesn’t come with half the warranty and not much cheaper either.

Truth is, 99% of the time it doesn’t really need changing, it just  needs recalibrating but that’s not something your local garage can do (or the main dealer surprisingly). In fact, we’re taking on jobs from many local garages and have customers from the retail sector coming to us directly to save £100’s.

When you replace the steering column with a new one, it needs programming from the main dealers and that’s not cheap you’re looking at £500+ for a new column & programming and that doesn’t include labour for fitting either, however, it does come with a full 1 years warranty. A second hand unit isn’t any good at all, you’ll pay upwards of £150+ for the unit plus any labour costs to remove your old unit and fit the replacement.. and if you’re lucky, the most warranty you’ll get from any breakers yard will be 3 months (with condition of course!).

Bring you’re vehicle to us and we’ll rectify the fault in situe. It takes a couple of hours and we’ll recalibrate the electric column and rectify all faults – therefore there is no costs for replacement parts and absolute minimum labour costs. It’s by far the cheapest option.. and just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, we back our service fully by our no-quibble 1years warranty for peace of mind.

We suggest minimal driving whilst your steering is biased / heavy one way because if you drive like that for too long, you can permanently damage it in which case recalibration would be out of the equation and then a replacement part would be the only solution. We do carry replacement columns in stock but of course it’s far more expensive so we always suggest if you’ve acknowledged the fault then get in touch with us today so we can help you save money.
