The Audi Q7 from 2007 – 2013 comes fitted with a Magneti Marelli manufactured instrument cluster (speedometer) unit. Some Speedo’s can fit a variety of vehicles, however this particular part has only been found fitted to the Audi Q7 and is specific to this model of vehicle. We have had quite a few Audi Q7 Speedo units in for testing & repairs and have seen various faults.

If you have a faulty instrument cluster on your Q7 Audi, you may have been advised that it cannot be repaired and will require replacing. Unfortunately new replacement parts can be very expensive and will require coding. Second hand replacement parts may be a little cheaper to buy but because these parts are coded (programmed) to the vehicle, they will need reprogramming which can be an additional cost. Both options of replacement will come with a limited warranty – new parts typically have a 12 month warranty and used parts have 30-90 days warranty.

Clutch / Gearbox Actuator Faults - Citroen + PeugeotA modern semi-automatic Peugeot / Citroen will come with SensoDrive technology. Sensodrive is basically an electronically controlled manual gearbox. It will come fitted with an electronic clutch actuator, gearbox actuator and a gearbox ECU.

The Peugeot / Citroen range vehicles with SensoDrive technology often suffer transmission faults and most commonly the problems are within the electronic clutch actuator and / or gearbox actuator. Below we’ve listed some of the common failing symptoms we’ve seen these units suffer with.

The BMW 1 Series came fitted with a BORG manufactured dashboard instrument cluster (speedometer) unit. These units have been known to fail under varying conditions and the faults can also vary quite a lot. The instrument cluster faults are not specific to certain models, all BMW 1 Series E81/E82/E87/E88 can be affected, including:

BMW 116i / 118i / 120i / 130i / 116D / 118D / 120D / 123D

The BMW Mini from 1999 – 2006 (R50 / R52) was fitted with a Motorola TCU (Transmission Control Unit), also known as a TCM (Transmission Control Module). It is fitted to automatic models with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The TCU / TCM is a very common failing part and can be very expensive to replace. Replacement units will require coding to your vehicle and come with a limited warranty – typically between 30 days and 12 months.

There are many problems associated with this type of transmission control module but the most common fault is the vehicle “jumping” into gear or not selecting the right gear. This will occur more often on a cold morning or whilst the engine is still cold.

Common Transmission Control Module Faults:

  • Not selecting correct gear (especially when cold)
  • Not going into gear at all
  • Rough gear changes
  • Warning lights on dash
  • No communication faults
