Alfa Romeo HDI EGR Valve Issues

Alfa Romeo EGR Removals

Alfa Romeo HDI EGR Valve IssuesAlfa Romeo EGR Removal
EGR Removal has become a popular choice for many motorists, as it can be very problematic as well as extremely expensive to repair and replace. There are many different reasons why the EGR gets blocked in the first place which can directly affect the performance of the vehicle, and can therefore be costly to fix.

Here at Sinspeed we are able to completely deactivate the EGR system on your Alfa Romeo. We provide a completely bespoke and custom EGR Delete service from start to finish. For further information or a quote, please call us today on 0203 815 9441.

What is an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve?
An Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve often referred to as an EGR valve, is now mandatory on all new vehicles as it is designed to decrease your cars noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of harmful gases, before being released in to the atmosphere. This is done by recirculating a portion of the exhausts and running it through the combustion process again to ensure fuel is completely burned before being released, as the unburned fuel is thought to be a huge contributor to green house gas build up.

To learn more about what an EGR valve is, check out our highly informative EGR Valve Problems and Solutions article here.

What are the common problems associated with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve System?
Recirculating carbon rich gasses can eventually cause the carbon to build up and therefore interfere with the operation of the EGR valve. When the vehicle is also fitted with a turbocharger then problems become more evident due to wear and tear of the turbocharger, which can slowly leak oil if not maintained. As you can imagine, oil as well as carbon rich gasses being caught in the EGR valve can eventually cause it block quicker as it will also become sticky.

Some of the most common problems caused by a blocked EGR include:

Smoke on Acceleration
Fluttering On Acceleration
Loss of Power
Missfire
EGR Flap Position Sensor Faults

The list above highlights some of the more common faults, which are related to the EGR system on both Diesel and Petrol vehicles. We find that occasionally, it is possible to remove the EGR valve and just clean it but this is generally only a temporary fix, as the carbon continues to build up, and re cleaning the EGR will be required again at some point.

To completely replace the EGR Valve is also an option, however the price varies from as little as £200 and can sometimes be as much as £800 + Labour.

What are the expected effects after having my EGR de-activated?
You will find that by having the EGR removed and de-activated from the vehicle’s ECU, the engine will begin to work much more effectively, as all the air coming in to the engine will be clean causing the combustion of fuel / air to be more quicker and powerful. This will also cause less wear on the engine and other components allowing it to stay cleaner for longer.

How can SINSPEED help reduce this cost & what are the options?
We offer a safe and completely bespoke EGR Delete session whereby we de-activate the EGR system entirely from the vehicle. We simply log into the vehicles on-board engine management system via the ECU and switch off the EGR valve to stop it opening and recirculating the mucky exhaust gasses and clogging up your engine. Also, when this is done professionally via the ECU, there will be no logged fault codes, no warning lights and no loss of power – because the ECU will accept our de-activation code and not look to register anything further from the EGR system.

Below is a list of the most common vehicles that are affected by EGR problems:

Make / Model
Alfa Romeo 147
Alfa Romeo 156
Alfa Romeo 166
Alfa Romeo Giulietta

All of our EGR Delete solutions come with our lifetime software warranty and are completely reversible. For more information, please call us on 0203 815 9441 or email us today.

Saab Bosch VP44 PSG5 Diesel Pump Faults

Saab 9-3 / 9-5 Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump EDC Repairs

Saab Bosch VP44 PSG5 Diesel Pump FaultsSaab 9-3 / 9-5 Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump EDC Repairs
The Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump (PSG5) is fitted to both the Saab 9-3 as well as the Saab 9-5, and is know to be a very common failing part. Due to the Hybrid technology behind the design of the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump we have found the unit will fail in very specific ways which will make the vehicle cut out and not start.

Sinspeed Saab 9-3 / 9-5 Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Common Problems
The most common fault of a failed EDC unit is the vehicle not starting, however other common faults also include:

  • Running Rough
  • Stored Fault Codes
  • Engine Light On
  • Loss of Power
  • Struggling To Start
  • Complete Non-Starter

If you find any of the above symptoms with your Diesel Pump EDC and you have taken it the local dealer, you will more than likely find that the quote is very expensive for a whole replacement unit, as the EDC unit is generally not available to purchase as a separate part to the diesel pump. The costs further increase if you also add labour as well as coding / programming costs and it will only come with 12 months warranty. Other options include replacing your diesel pump with a second hand unit, however this means that the unit would only come with a limited 60-90 day warranty and would also require programming at an extra cost.

Saab 9-3 / 9-5 Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Testing
These units are taken in on a daily basis for testing and repairs. Each unit is put through extensive tests on our latest diesel pump test rig, which allows us to communicate directly with the EDC unit to test all functions of the electronic diesel pump, and after repairing many of these failed units, we have concluded that there is a fault within the Electronic Diesel Control Unit (EDC) and not in the mechanical part of the diesel pump. By carrying out a soak test on all units we can identify not only the most common faults, but also highlight any intermittent faults.

Saab Bosch VP44 EDC ReplacementOur Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump EDC Repair Service
Here at Sinspeed, when we carry out the repair on your Electronic Diesel Pump, we use only new and genuine OEM components and we also uprate any of the components that are the cause for the initial failure. This allows each and every Bosch VP44 diesel pump to be rebuilt to the highest standards whilst meeting and exceeding OE specifications. The current turnaround time is 3 – 5 working days and no programming will be required when fitting it back to your vehicle. All rebuilt Bosch VP44 diesel pumps also come with our Lifetime Warranty.

Note: The Bosch VP44 Electronic Diesel Control unit uses hybrid technology and can be damaged very easily so it is advised NOT to try a DIY repair. These units should only be opened by experienced specialists with extensive knowledge in hybrid EDC technology.

Removing the EDC unit can be very involved and we do offer a professional fitting service at our Diesel Pump Repair Workshop if required. Below is an application list which shows all the known vehicles fitted with this part and part numbers associated with this part. If you’re vehicle is not listed or you’re unsure, give us a call on 0203 815 9441.

Audi Quattro Propshaft Repair Service

Audi Quattro Propshaft RepairAudi Quattro Propshaft Repairs
The Audi quattro is a 4WD (4-Wheel Drive) vehicle where the gearbox transfers it’s power through all 4 wheels via the front + rear driveshafts. The power is delivered to the rear driveshafts through the propshaft which sits in the centre of the vehicle between the gearbox and the rear differential.

Common Propshaft Problems

  • Noisy bearing
  • Juddering on acceleration
  • Loss of drive / power

With a propshaft failure you may be quoted upwards of £900.00 +Vat & Fitting to have a brand new part fitted by an Audi dealership. The genuine part direct from Audi will come with a 12 month warranty but at a high price. There are many aftermarket options out there and even the option of using second hand parts but the warranty is limited and the quality of aftermarket parts will never be the same as the genuine product.

Sinspeed’s Propshaft Repair Service
We can remanufacture your existing propshaft and using new genuine OEM components in the rebuild process, we can ensure that each and every rebuilt propshaft will meet & exceed OE specifications. All of our propshafts are fully balanced when being rebuilt and are returned with a 12 month warranty. We can generally repair and turnaround a remanufactured propshaft within 24-48 hours. Nissan Bosch VP44 PSG5 Diesel Pump Faults

Nissan Almera / Patrol / Terrano Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump EDC Repairs

Nissan Bosch VP44 PSG5 Diesel Pump FaultsNissan Almera / Patrol / Terrano Bosch CP44 Diesel Pump EDC Repairs
Many of the Nissan models are fitted with the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump (PSG5) but unfortunately it is known to be a very common failing part. One of the most specific failures that have been found with this part is that it makes the vehicle cut out completely and not start, and this is mostly due to the Hybrid technology behind the design of the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump.

Nissan Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Testing
Here at Sinspeed we take these units in on a daily basis for testing and repairs, and have found that the fault is actually within the Electronic Diesel Control (Unit EDC) and not the mechanical part of the diesel pump. By testing this on our latest diesel pump test rig, it allows for direct communication with the EDC unit to test all functions of the electronic diesel pump. The extensive soak test that is carried out flags out the most common faults as well as highlighting any intermittent faults.

Nissan Bosch VP44 EDC FaultWhy Choose Sinspeed to Repair your Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump EDC?
Any Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Repairs that are carried out within our Sinspeed workshop will be done using only new and genuine OEM components. We also upgrade the components in the EDC unit that causes the initial failure to ensure that each and every Bosch VP44 diesel pump is rebuilt to meet and exceed OE Specifications. We also have many of the common failing part numbers on the shelf, rebuilt and ready to exchange.

For your convenience, our turnaround time for diesel pump repairs is 3 – 5 working days and no programming is required when fitting the unit back to the vehicle – making it plug and play.

Below are some of the most common fault codes that have been found on the Nissan range, and although they can range quite a lot, it is more than likely that all faults will relate back to a failed electronic diesel control unit (EDC).

VAG Codes: 00550 / 00628 / 01268 / 01318
Other Fault Codes: P0190 / P1220 / P1335 / P1551 / P1560 / P1561 / P1600 / P1630 / P1631 / P1651 / P1660 / P1661

If you have enquired about these fault codes at dealers or local garages, you will be aware that they will charge upwards of £1000 to replace the whole unit, with labour and programming. Our diesel pump repair service is fast, efficient and affordable and we have no problems repairing these units as long as they have not been tampered with.

Note: The hybrid technology that exists within the diesel pump can be very easily damaged if not opened by a skilled professional with experience in hybrid EDC repairs.

Below you will find a Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump application list showing some common failing part numbers on the Nissan. If your part number is not listed on here or you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 0203 815 9441 and we will be happy to assist you.

Mitsubishi Colt Clutch Actuator Faults

Mitsubishi Colt Clutch / Gear Actuator Repairs

Mitsubishi Colt Clutch Actuator FaultsDoes your Mitsubishi Colt slip out of gears when driving or fail to even select any gears? Or does it sometimes get stuck in neutral? If so, this may be due to a failed Clutch or Gear Actuator.

The Mitsubishi Colt is equipped with an automated manual gearbox which allows it to interchange between manual or automatic at a flick of a button, which is unlike any normal 5 or 6-speed automatics. It operates on sensors and ECU’s which means it does not require a clutch pedal.

The three main components that consist within this type of gearbox include the clutch actuator assembly, a gear shift actuator assembly and a gearbox ECU. Position sensors are placed within each actuator, which allows for signals to be sent back to the gearbox ECU to determine the position of the clutch as well as what gear the vehicle is in. The gearbox ECU then also uses this information as well as the vehicle’s speed and other parameters to calculate the required gear, when the next gear change should take place and when to engage / dis-engage the clutch.

Unfortunately, as many Mitsubishi Colt owners are most likely aware of – this design has been diagnosed with faults that have caused the vehicle to sometimes be left completely immobile!

Common Clutch + Gear Actuator Problems
The most common signs to look out for when diagnosing a faulty clutch or gear actuator on your Mitsubishi Colt are listed below:

  • Slips Out of Gears
  • Gets Stuck In Neutral
  • Fails to Select Gears

The list above is just some of the common issues that have been diagnosed within our workshop on a daily basis.

Being such a common fault, it is likely you have either a clutch or gear actuator fault and in some cases, it is possible that both actuators have failed together. If you have contacted main dealers already, you will be aware that the price to replace the whole unit can cost in the region of £700 + VAT, which will increase as each actuator will need re-coding to the vehicle. Furthermore, if you opt to replace your unit it will only come with 12 months warranty, and as it is known to be such a common failing part, there is no guarantee that it will not fail again.

My Mitsubishi Colt Actuator is Faulty – How can SINSPEED Help Me?
We specialise in testing and repairing gear  + clutch actuators for the Mitsubishi Colt as well as many other vehicles makes and models where electronic actuators control the vehicle’s gearbox. We can fully bench test and repair your Mitsubishi Colt Gear + Clutch actuator using genuine OEM parts are used when repairing the actuators, to ensure that every repaired clutch / gear actuator meets and exceeds OE specifications.

Actuators that are repaired by Sinspeed will  not require re-coding when fitting back to your vehicle and for a complete peace of mind – will also come with Lifetime Warranty!

If you have a Mitsubishi Colt with a clutch or gear actuator fault then give us a call today on 0203 815 9441 or alternatively send us a quick message here.

Smart Car Gear Actuator Faults

Smart Car Clutch Actuator + Gear Actuator Repairs

Smart Car Gear Actuator Faults

The SMART car transmission is unlike any ordinary 5 or 6-speed automatic. It is an automated manual gearbox. Which means the vehicle can be driven as a manual or automatic at the flick of a button. The vehicle does not have a clutch pedal and instead operates on sensors and ECU’s.

The system consists of a clutch actuator assembly, a gear shift actuator assembly, and a gearbox ECU. Each of the actuators will also have position sensors. Which sends signals back to the gearbox ECU to determine which gear the vehicle is in or what position the clutch is in. This information along with vehicle speed and other parameters will be used by the gearbox ECU. To calculate the required gear, when the next gear change should take place and when to engage/disengage the clutch.

As many SMART car owners are already aware, this design has many faults and can render the vehicle completely un-drivable.

Common Clutch + Gear Actuator Problems

When the clutch and gear actuators fail on the Mercedes Smart car. It doesn’t always give the same symptom. Below we’ve listed the most common fault symptoms we are aware of so far:

  • 3 Bars / Lines Appearing on Gear Change Box
  • Slipping Out of Gears
  • Getting Stuck in Neutral
  • Failing to Select Gears

If your clutch or gear actuator has failed, then you may already be aware of exactly how much it can cost to replace the unit. Each actuator is coded to the vehicle and can cost upwards of £700+Vat each to replace with coding. Furthermore, the replacement unit will only come with a standard 12-month warranty and being that it is such a common failing part, it doesn’t give much confidence that the problem won’t re-occur.

We receive clutch & gear actuators for repair on a daily basis for the following vehicles:

  • Smart City
  • Smart ForTwo
  • Smart ForFour
  • Smart Roadster

We have also compiled a short list of part numbers associated to the failing clutch & gear actuator units. Note: this is not a complete list of part numbers, only the most common part numbers we frequently see in our workshops are listed.
