Mitsubishi Colt Clutch / Gear Actuator Repairs
Does your Mitsubishi Colt slip out of gears when driving or fail to even select any gears? Or does it sometimes get stuck in neutral? If so, this may be due to a failed Clutch or Gear Actuator.
The Mitsubishi Colt is equipped with an automated manual gearbox which allows it to interchange between manual or automatic at a flick of a button, which is unlike any normal 5 or 6-speed automatics. It operates on sensors and ECU’s which means it does not require a clutch pedal.
The three main components that consist within this type of gearbox include the clutch actuator assembly, a gear shift actuator assembly and a gearbox ECU. Position sensors are placed within each actuator, which allows for signals to be sent back to the gearbox ECU to determine the position of the clutch as well as what gear the vehicle is in. The gearbox ECU then also uses this information as well as the vehicle’s speed and other parameters to calculate the required gear, when the next gear change should take place and when to engage / dis-engage the clutch.
Unfortunately, as many Mitsubishi Colt owners are most likely aware of – this design has been diagnosed with faults that have caused the vehicle to sometimes be left completely immobile!

I have a 2009 Mitsubishi Colt semi auto. The dash board shows it is changing gear but there is no drive what so ever. i have topped the oil up and there is a smell of a burnt clutch. any ideas ?

selects forward and reverse with difficulty when drive slowly backward or forward it judders badly and when the brakes are applied the clutch does clear and the engine stops
Hi, sounds like i have a problem with the actuator on my mitsubishi colt cz2.. it feels like clutch is slipping and jumps in and out of gear.. sometimes it does know when to change gear and often gets confused when braking hard.. Sounds like its very common. Is this expensive to fix. Kind regards J
My daughter recently bought a Cz2 auto 1.3 petrol 2007 model. The problem is that it will not select gears, particularly reverse. Keeps saying ‘O’ on the dash. When it does go the gears are all over the place then the engine shuts down. Leave it a while and it starts. It’s Been in a Garage a couple of weeks now and diagnostics are telling them nothing. Also they dropped the box and are clueless. As I email it going to Mitsubishi for more diagnostics. Can you help.

Hi traded out car 1.5 diesel colt semi auto is it like smart box ?? Freed up actuators on early smart then they started sleeving on later models had no problems, got diagnostics that can run live test on smart , don’t know about colt??? I have a colt CZ2 AMT that has locked up with no gear displayed, twice now. I have to use the gearbox in manual and never use auto as it will get the dreaded jump and lurch. How long will it take to get the actuators investigated? It had P1710, P1705, P1830 and U3FFF error codes on the ECU!

My MITSUBISHI COLT CZ2 DI-D 58 plate In order to get into reverse I have to go to gear 1 then 2 then back down to 1 then it would exchange the reverse gear. Recently would only go into gears 2 and 4 but this seems to have resolved itself. Could you please advise how much it will cost to repair.

I have 54 Reg Mitsubishi Colt 65k mileage, week a go it started to shudder and after few miles stops and no drive at all but on screen it shows car is in gear. also EM light shows on dash. when turn of the car for 10 -15 min. and turn back on all ok and start driving.
when I Diagnose the problem it says Clutch Actuator Malfunction.
I have Mitsubishi colt elegance 54 REG, It started throwing me around by banging in and out of gear and revving up and down. Pulled up and switched off. Fired her straight back up (i.e. engine still hot) to attempt a move to a safer spot, everything was fine, drove the six miles home no bother. A couple of days later same again, switched off and back on, it was fine, although EM light came on this time. Next day, fired her up, no EM light everything fine again. Ten miles later it all repeats.
Error codes checked today and showed actuator faulty.

My Colt 1.6 techtronic is having problems with gears. It sometimes judders & I have to turn it off to stop it happening.

I have a 2006 model that keeps missing 2nd gear had some diagnostics done and reset the parameters and worked fine for about 1 mile once it had changed down the box it would then suffer the same problem it also then misses 2nd gear in manual mode is this something you can rctify or is the problem with the gearbox itself

I have semi-automatic mitsubishi Colt -05 and it has problems with the gears. For example last time it started normally, but after 1 minute of drive, it lost all of its gears and didn’t start up again in 15 minutes. Sometimes the car will blink 0 when trying to select a gear, won’t go to reverse, or start at all. The yellow engine lights is on. I think it works better, when the car is warmed up. The faulty automatic clutch was changed about 8k kilometers ago.

Hi, I have a 2007 Colt auto diesel. When starting cold it doesn’t immediately engage 1st or reverse until you increase the revs which then causes it to jerks forward/back.
No problems when warm and otherwise runs absolutely fine.

Once warm its better.
Also comes out of gear every so often up hills and revs up
